Architecture is keep on changing everyday, from the past until now and to the future. The change of architecture involve materials, technology, building style, culture, style of architect and environment.
Based on my understanding, old architecture adopted the ideals of “ form followed function”. The style of old architecture was brought by artisans hunger which deviates from the European and Victorian modes of architecture with opulent appearances WHEREAS present architecture practice with Less is More and is lack of ornament. Decorative moldings and elaborate trim are eliminated or greatly simplified, giving way to a clean aesthetic where materials meet in simple, well-executed joints.

Most succinctly, the essential differences are these: in traditional buildings the enclosure of the building and the structure of the building are identical, and in modern architecture they are not; and traditional building is spatial, and modern cities and suburbs are not. In my opinion, architectural soul present in the building is what defines the difference between the old architecture and the present architecture. Architecture: Hush now, even concrete has feelings - Louis Kahn searched for souls in buildings and talked to bricks. Along the way he inspired some of the greatest Modern architects in the world.
Old architecture in Pre classical era like Egypt pyramids, Classical era like Villa Almerico Capra, Premodern era like Crystal Palace have soul that is more grant and more symbolic. It reflects the grand history of the era. Ornaments are greatly used in old architecture.
Art Era from Renaissance, Baroque, the buildings were all decorated, finely measured and crafted and giving the soul to the buildings.
Present architecture soul is more to functionality and more to the rational direction of thinking rather than symbolic effect. Less ornaments are used and the building is designed to suit the needs of the users.
The Difference from Each Architectural Approach. For example,
Frank Lloyd Wright is famous with his principle of “ organic architecture” designed structure that will be in perfect harmony with the environment. To me he has reshaped the world of architecture with many of his remarkable works. Falling water is one of the remarkable structure where the design is totally engage with the nature, least ornamentation and fully used of the nature.

For instance, Philip Johnson is known for his postmodern attack on architecture. His style of using glass as part of his design which can be seen in” Glass House” creates legacy in the world of architecture.
Besides, I think that the distinctive change from Old architecture to Present architecture is the materials used in the buildings. Old architecture have been made of wood, stone and bricks. One of the example is pyramid in Egypt. Present architecture such as Heydar Aliyev Center by Zaha Hadid has been made of steel, glass and iron and use of advanced technology. Architecture nowadays can be creatd in geometric shape and fantastic façade.
In my point of view, I more prefer to old architecture. This is because the buildings have their own soul which represent their stories behind. We should learn from the past and try to apply or solve the problem at present.
